Long Arm Services

The Sampler is honored to assist you in finishing your wonderful works of art. We understand the time, effort, and love you put into your quilt top and will treat it as if it were our own. Our long arm quilters specialize in edge-to-edge quilting using a computerized Gammill Statler Stitcher. This type of quilting creates a repeating pantographic quilting pattern, or panto, that will work beautifully on your quilt.

We are able to quilt on tops constructed with 100% cotton, such as the gorgeous fabrics sold in our shop. Clothing can be incorporated into a quilt top, however some fabrics are more difficult to quilt, such as Polyester and Denim fabrics. Country sampler cannot accept quilts made of these materials. All three-dimensional items such as buttons, ribbons, etc, must be added after quilting has been completed.

Quilt Preparation

  • Press and trim threads from quilt top
  • Press all seams flat in order to prevent puckering
  • Square up and trim quilt to it’s final size
  • Secure all seams: a large basting stitch is  needed around edges with pieced borders or lots of seams
  • Trim all selvages (especially on backings)
  • Backing seams should be 1/4 -1/2 inch and pressed open, press entire backing.
  • Do NOT pin or baste your backing, batting or quilt top

 Pricing Info

  • Cost per square inch: .022 cents for standard density quilting

    or

  • Calculating the square inches can be done by multiplying the width by the length of your quilt.
  • How to estimate the cost of quilting service. Variegated thread is more expensive, but creates a unique look. An additional $7 charge will be added to your fees if variegated thread is selected.
    • Multiply the length by the width. This equals the total square inches of your quilt. Multiply that number by the price per square inch.
    • Example: Lap quilt 60” X 72”
    • 60 X 72 = 4,320 (total square inches)
    • 4,320 X .023 = $99.36
  • ‘Rush’ option is $25
  • Machine Binding is available for those who need binding assistance, the cost is .13 cents per inch.
  • There is a $55 minimum charge per quilt for all long arm services.

Batting and Backing

Our machines have been calibrated for low loft battings only. We have several types of batting for you to choose from, or feel free to bring your own. Although most low loft batting works just fine, Country Sampler reserves the right to refuse services if we believe the quilt top or batting may cause damage to one of our machines. No 100% polyester, or high loft batting please! Batting size must be at least 6 inches larger than the dimensions of your quilt top (3 inches on all sides). Batting is sold by the yard and will be added to the total cost of the quilting service.

The Sampler has plenty of backings to choose from and our helpful staff can assist you choosing the perfect fabric! Backings, like batting, must also be 6 inches larger than the quilt top. If for some reason you require assistance seaming and preparing a quilt backing, our staff will gladly help, however an additional $30 per seam fee will apply. Centering a quilt backing is difficult, we will do our best, but please keep this in mind if your backing is pieced. If your quilt backing is directional or has a top/bottom, please mark it so our quilter can is informed.

Things to Think About

  • When choosing a backing, you may want to consider the color of the thread you would like to use to quilt the top, and the fabric you will use for binding.
  • Neutral threads or thread close in color to your quilt will blend well and hide stitching. Bolder colored threads will pop and highlight the quilting design.
  • The Sampler prefers not to use a different color thread in the bobbin because the bottom thread shows through from the other side.
  • You may choose your own thread or trust our quilters to select for you!

Timeline

Quilts are taken on a first come first serve basis. Customers are given a date on our Long Arm Calendar and contacted several day before regarding the timeline and drop off. We do our best to maintain our schedule, however certain factors can change our plans! Larger quilts and in depth designs take more time and thread, and every once in a while the machines need maintenance. Most quilts are finished within two to three days of their assigned date. The Sampler will call you when your quilt is ready for pick-up.

Certain times of the year are busier in our long arm room. Graduation and the Christmas Seasons often mean lots of quilt tops needing attendance! Please keep this in mind while you are planning your quilt and feel free to call us to get a more definite timeline!
